On Sunday, the Algerian people celebrate the 61st anniversary of Victory Day, which falls on March 19th each year.

This day witnessed the announcement of a ceasefire after lengthy negotiations led by the delegation of the National Liberation Front in the city of Evian, near the French-Swiss border, which led to a treaty bearing the name of the city under which the independence referendum was organized on July 3, 1962.

The name of this day, Victory Day, carries more than one significant meaning as it is considered a victory for all successive generations of Algerian fighters, who sacrificed their precious lives in order to get rid of the darkness of tyranny that they had been suffering since the French occupier set foot on the pure land of Algeria.

Glory and eternity to our righteous martyrs.
